This list of the world’s biggest companies is by revenue. All the revenues cited are in US Dollars. This list includes public and private business enterprises. 
 
The Top Ten 
 
At number one is Wal-Mart. Its line of business is in retail. Its revenue in 2010 was $408.21 billon. It has 2,150,000 employees. Number 2 is Exxon Mobil, an oil and gas company. Its revenue was $301.5 billion in 2009. It has 90,800 employees. 
 
The third largest company in the world is Royal Dutch Shell, another oil company. It posted revenues of $278.188 billion in 2009. The company has 112,000 employees. At number four is BP. The oil and gas company posted revenues of $246.138 in 2009. The company employs 97,600 people. 
 
Another oil and gas company is at number 5, Saudi Aramco. Its 2008 revenues were $233 billion. It has 54,441 employees. Number six is Toyota Motors, an automotive company. Its revenues in 2010 were $203.687 billion. Toyota currently has 316,121 employees. 
 
The conglomerate Japan Post Holdings is seventh in the list of the world’s biggest companies. Its revenues as of March 2010 are $200.995 billion. The conglomerate has 3,251 personnel. At number eight is another oil and gas company, Sinopec. Its 2009 revenue was $197.019 billon. It has 400,513 employees. 
At number 9 is Total S.A. The oil and gas company stated $189.19 billion in revenue in 2009. It has 111,401 employees. At number ten is State Grid Corporation of China, an electricity company. It has 1,502,000 employees. Its revenue in 2009 was $172.5 billion. 
 
Other Large Companies 
 
The Samsung Group is at number 11 with revenues of $172.5 billion. At number 12 is Chevron. The oil giant had revenues of $167.402 in 2009. The company has 61,533 employees. At number 13 is ING Group, a financial services group. In 2009, it had revenues of $164.39 billion. 
 
General Electric is at number 14 with revenues of $156.78 billion in 2009. ConocoPhillips is at number 15. An oil company, it had revenues of $152.84 in 2009. At 16 is the Volkswagen Group. It had revenues of $151.532 billion in 2009. The oil company PetroChina is at number 17. Its 2009 revenue was $149.3 billion. 
 
Vitol is number 18 with revenues of $143 billion. At number 19 is Allianz, a financial services company. Its revenue was $140.29 billion in 2009. At number 20 in the list of the world’s biggest companies is Carrefour. This retailing company had revenues of $138.545 billion in 2009.
