In detailed description, Chateau de Versailles has 700 rooms, more than 2,000 windows, 1,250 fireplaces, 67 staircases, and covers an area of 19,800 acres of land. The castle also has a Galerie des Glaces or Hall of Mirrors that is 75 meters in length with 17 arcades that alternate beautifully with 17 windows. The signing of the Treaty of Versailles was done here which signifies the conclusion of World War I.

King Louis-Philippe founded a museum during his time and this is still in existence in the sidelong wings of Chateau de Versailles. Aside from this museum, there are still other galleries that are turned into a museum that depict important historical events like the Crusades and the French Revolution. The longest hall in the castle is the Battle gallery that has a length of 120 meters. In here is depicted the great battles in France by way of impressive paintings.

The gardens in Chateau de Versailles have about 1,400 fountains and the waters used in the fountains are drawn from the River Seine. About 6.2 million liters of water is needed in every hour to run these fountains. There are also 300 various statues, busts, and vases that dotted throughout the extremely huge gardens. In front of the castle is a garden facade that has a length of 575 meters long and it has different annexes placed here and there. There is also a park that has an area of several square kilometers.


King Louis XIV constructed Chateau de Versailles for the purpose of escaping the busy life he had in the heart of France that is Paris. Another reason is to keep the nobles to be loyal to him continually. This is where the king has set up his residence and instated the government of France. Chateau de Versailles is a renovated old hunting lodge that is being extended to be a castle. The construction started in 1664 and stopped in 1715 when King Louis XIV died.
