Pruning Shears Size Chart

 

The pruning shear dimensions are extremely diverse. Some of the shears measure 1.1 x 4 x 11.8 inches, while others are 1.5 x 6 x 13.8 inches. Shears of other sizes are available as well. 

General Information 

The pruning shears are scissors that are made for pruning flowers and wood plants. While the shear design varies, all of them are fitted with durable blades. 

These are used for chopping off branches. The shears are fitted with thick handles. This is to make the shears simpler to use. The thick handles also make them easier to handle. 

The pruning shears are most useful for small pruning work, while the loppers are for larger operations. However, the larger pruning shear dimensions may be capable of handling medium sized pruning work too. When not in use, the shears should be placed in covers to keep them safe. 

Designs and Variants

There are also ratchet shears available. The design is such that the pressure is increased on the branches. This is made possible by the use of a ratcheting mechanism. What this means is that little pressure is needed for the shears to cut. This has made the shears very popular among elderly gardeners and those with weak hands. 

Maintenance 

Even the most expensive shears won’t last if it is not taken care of. If the shears are in good condition, the shears should cut plants easily. If the shears are not well maintained, it will mangle the plants.

To avoid this problem, the shears have to be sharpened on a regular basis. Many gardeners also oil the shears at the conclusion of the pruning season. 

The pruning shear dimensions you choose determines how easy or hard the pruning will be. If you only do occasional pruning, the smaller shears will do. More experienced gardeners, however, will have different sizes of pruning shears.
