Before the emergence and popularity of trans-Atlantic flights, Ocean Linerocean liners were very popular. Their sheer size allowed for the transportation of passengers, military personnel and cargo.

Size of Ocean Liner Titanic

Without doubt one of the most famous ocean liners ever built, the HMS Titanic was 882 ft 9 in long (269.1 m). The tonnage was 46,328 GRT and the displacement was 52,310 tons. Its height was 175 ft (53.3 m), with the beam measuring 92 ft 0 in (28.0 m). The Titanic was 64 ft 6 in (19.7 m) deep. The speed was 21 knots, or 39 km/h (24 mph).

The Titanic could carry 3,547 passengers. The ship had 840 staterooms. The ship had libraries, a swimming pool, cafes and elevators installed.

Size of Ocean Liner Britannic

The Britannic was the sister ship of the Titanic. But the liner was used as a hospital ship and sank in 1916. The gross tonnage was 48,158 and the displacement was 53,000 tons. The Brittanic’s total length was 882 ft 9 in (or 269.06 m). The beam was 94 ft (or 29 m). The draught was estimated at 34 ft 7 in (10.54 m) with the draft at 35 feet (10.7 m).

The ship had 29 boilers installed. A couple of 4 cylinder engines were set up producing 16,000 horsepower. There was a low turbine pressure generating 18,000 horsepower. In total the horsepower was over 50,000. The top speed was 23 knots (26 mph; 43 km/h).

Size of Ocean Liner Queen Elizabeth 2

The tonnage was 70,327 GT (gross tons). The displacement (loaded) was 48,923 tons and the total length was 962.9 ft) (293.5 m). The beam measured 105.1 ft (or 32.03 m). The height was just over 171.3 ft (around 52.2 m). The draft was measured at 32.4 ft or 9.87 m.

The installed power was 9 x 10,625 kW. Its top speed was 34 knots (equal to 63 km/h or 39 mph). The total passenger capacity was 1,777. The crew totaled 1,040. Like other ocean liners, the Queen Elizabeth features restaurants, pubs and other amenities. The ocean liner Queen Elizabeth 2 was retired in 2008.

Size of Ocean Liner Queen Mary 2

The biggest ocean liner ever built, the Queen Mary 2 is also the only one left in service. The tonnage is 148,528 while the displacement is 76,000 tons. The ship’s length is 1,132 ft or almost 345 m.

The beam is 135 ft (41 m) at the waterline. The height has been measured at 236.2 ft (equal to 72 m). This is from funnel to keel. The draft is 33 ft (10 m).

There are 13 passenger decks, with the horsepower at 117,000. The top speed is 29 knots (55 km/h; 25 mph). The total passenger capacity is 2,620. The crew number 1,253.

The Queen Mary 2 has numerous amenities and accommodations. They include more than a dozen restaurants, a casino and a ballroom. There are also swimming pools, a theater and first class services.

The size of ocean liners have been matched and in many ways supplanted by cruise ships. Except for the Queen Mary 2, the ocean liners are now historical relics.
