Produced by Philip Morris International and Philip Morris USA, Marlboro continues to be one of the most popular brands of cigarettes all over the world. For years, catchy magazine and billboard advertisements continue to help increase its popularity. Its largest manufacturing plant is found within the City of Richmond in Virginia. Its name was derived from the Great Marlborough Street, which is to be found in London, England. In addition to these interesting facts, it is also good to known the Marlboro pack dimensions.

The Dimensions of a Marlboro Pack

A standard pack of Marlboro cigarette measures 8.5 centimeters high, 5 centimeters wide and 2 centimeters deep. However, there are special versions, some of which are slightly smaller than these dimensions, while others are a little bit bigger. Some of the standard cigarettes include the Marlboro Menthol, Marlboro Lights and Marlboro Reds. Outside the United States, some special Marlboro products are also produced such as the Marlboro Ice Chill in Australia, Marlboro Black Menthol in Japan and Marlboro Gold Touch in Europe.

Marlboro reached the United States in 1902, only after the London-based cigarette giant Philip Morris established a subsidiary in New York. During that time, the company sold different types or cigarette brands, one of which was Marlboro. In 1924, the company advertised Marlboro as a cigarette for women. The slogan of these advertisements was “Mild as May.” The brand sold well. However, it failed when World War II arrived.

When the war was over, three different brands dominated the cigarette market, namely Chesterfield, Lucky Strike and Camel. During the war, these brands were supplied to the soldiers of the United States. This major development contributed greatly to the success of these three brands when the war ended.

When the 1950s arrived, “Reader’s Digest” published a very important series of articles, which greatly contributed to the further development of cigarettes. The articles discussed the possible connection between lung cancer and smoking. To make cigarettes more appealing to consumers, numerous cigarette companies, headed by Philip Morris, started to produce cigarettes with filters. In 1955, Philip Morris launched a new improved Marlboro cigarette with filter. Philip Morris invented the “Marlboro Country” slogan in the early parts of the 1960s. It gave the brand a new and improved image that appealed greatly to many people, especially to men.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted a study in 2002 regarding the use of Marlboro cigarettes amongst students. Based on the findings, the rate of smokers amongst high school students was 52 percent. Amongst middle school students, the rate of Marlboro smokers was 41.8 percent during that time.
