General Information
The official name is the B-52 Stratofortress. It is a jet-powered, subsonic long-range bomber. The aircraft was made by Boeing and run by the United States Air Force (USAF). Development of the B52 began in 1946.
It was originally powered by six turboprop engines. The last prototype is powered by eight turbojet engines. The very first B52 was flown on 15 April 1952. During the Cold War era, the B52 was used to carry nuclear weapons.
The B52 Bomber dimensions allow it to carry a large number of weapons. It has been used in many wars, but only conventional armaments have been used. In the USAF, it is known as BUFF (Big Ugly Fat Fellow).
