How to Get the Right Windscreen

Because car models change every year, the windscreen wiper blade used for a 2008 model won’t work with a 2009 car. The easiest way to find out is to look at the car owner’s manual. If you don’t have the manual, take off the existing one. Bring it to the store. The store personnel will know the windscreen wiper size for your car.

However this may not even be necessary. Stores that sell wipers usually have a list of wiper blades going back several decades. However it’s still best if you inform them of the year and model of the car. If your car is a limited edition type, you’ll need to provide as much detail as possible.

Tips and Warnings

Keep in mind the wipers for the rear and driver’s sides may not be the same. The driver wipers may be bigger. While American cars typically have 20” blades, those on foreign cars may be smaller.

If you’re replacing the wiper, the whole arm must be removed. To prolong its life, apply some sealant to shield it against rain. Regular trips to the car wash will also be helpful.

To remember the windscreen wiper size, write it in a notebook and put it in the glove box. While you’re at it, you can put in other details about the car as well, in case of emergency.
