Standard Shower Sizes
The standard shower size is 32 inches x 32 inches. Many of the shower stalls today however, opt for 32 inches x 48 inches x 72-84 inches. One does not have to use the standard size; other specs are available.
Other Measurements
Almost all stalls are at least 36 inches wide. This is the minimum elbow room requirement. A stall for two people has to be at least 6 feet or 72 inches wide. Tall people will need at least 48″ x 38″ inner dimensions.
The 36 x 48 size is also adequate for many people. But the figures given are usually rough. If the pan measures 36 x 48 and sheet or tile is installed, the measurement will be close. But if it is fiberglass, the total will be less.
Shapes
Apart from the standard shower size, the shapes are either square or rectangular. Majority are rectangular. However, many have the showerhead at the short wall rather than the long one. This is not always favorable.
The reason is most of the water will end up on the person nearer the showerhead. The extra length is also wasted if the couple showers side by side.
The square size is also functional, but it can occupy a lot of room. A good option is the shower that has walls bulging on the outside. These are roomy but do not take up a lot of room. It is also possible to have these custom built. One of the features you can add is a seat. There are also door-less walk in showers available.
Features of Walk in Showers
These are available in different sizes and styles. These are fitted with glass enclosures. This feature means the bathroom will not get drenched even as you take the shower. These can also be customized, including the flooring, the seat and the materials as well.
If you are going to design one, you can use the standard shower size or one that is customized for your needs. The next thing to assess is the location. The next step is to get the flooring.
Options include pebbled tiles. Various types of glass can be used. These include bamboo, glass bricks, stain glass and frosted glass.
