How Big is a Business Card?

Making and designing a business card can become quite an interesting desktop publication project. Although there is an ISO paper size that coincides with the dimensions of these cards, each country still has its own size and standard dimensions. Other than figuring out the standard in your country, you should also take into account the format that you want to use.

Business Card Size and Dimensions

When you make your business card, make sure to follow the dimensions that are acceptable in your country. However, take note that the international standard is an A8 size paper size according to ISO 216. Its dimensions are 74 x 52 mm or 2.913 x 2.047 inches. You can make your card according this size if you wish and it will still appear acceptable in whatever country you’re in. Of course, if you don’t want to use this standard then use the one that is acceptable in your state or country.

Obviously, countries in Europe like Austria, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Ireland, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, and the Netherlands use a different standard. The standard size card in these countries will have dimensions as follows: 85 mm x 55 mm or 3.346″ x 2.165″.

The North American countries Canada and United States of America use the following dimensions as a standard: 89.9 mm x 50.8 mm or 3.5″ x 2″. Japan on the other hand uses 91 mm x 55 mm or 3.582″ x 2.165″ cards.

Other countries like Norway, New Zealand, Denmark, Australia, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Sweden use a different standard: 90 mm x 55 mm or 3.54″ x 2.165″. The standard card dimensions in Singapore, China, and Hong Kong are as follows: 90 mm x 54 mm or 3.543″ x 2.125″. The standard size in Iran is 85 mm x 48 mm or 3.346″ x 1.889″.

Other countries such as Kazakhstan, Israel, Hungary, Finland, Czech Republic, Brazil, Argentina, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Slovenia, Slovakia, Serbia, Russia, Romania, Poland, South Africa, Mexico, Latvia, and Bulgaria use the following standard dimensions: 90 mm x 50 mm or 3.543″ x 1.968″.

Other Methods

There are other ways to figure out the size and dimensions that are in use in your country. For instance, everyone knows that these cards are meant to fit into card pockets. This means that a business card should be about the same size as a credit card. You can go by that size if you wish. The standard credit card size is 85.60 mm x 53.98 mm or 3.370″ x 2.125″.

Figuring out the standard business card size and dimensions used in your country will require some scrutiny. Other options include following international paper size standards or just make the cards as big as your credit cards.
