The motion all metal mode will detect all metals you go over. The full discrimination mode discards iron and other trash.

The audio discrimination mode will identify audio pitches for various metals. The Ground Tac feature allows the detector to acclimatize to the soil. The Tracker IV works with 9 volt alkaline batteries. A sensitivity meter is also included. The metal detector can find silver rings, beer cans, shotgun shells and other objects.

The American Hawks Explorer metal detector weighs 1.5 lbs. The search coil is 6.5” and is waterproof. The shaft can extend from 23" to 34 1/2". The sensitivity is > 8 (this is for a quarter).

The stem can be adjusted when being used. The Explorer can distinguish between various metals including aluminum, silver, copper, gold and many more. The Explorer uses a single 9 volt battery.

The metal detector comes with a bag and headphones. The coil can be set in shallow water without affecting the results. There are knobs for configuring the sensitivity and the volume. After a target is sensed, a tone will be emitted. The strength meter determines the object’s dimensions and depth.

Upon detection of a metal, a buzzing sound will be emitted. The LED light will also go on. The metal detector can be used to find platinum, gold, aluminum and other metals.

Choosing a Metal Detector

The prices of metal detectors range from below $20 to several thousand. The higher price can mean the detector is more sensitive and discriminating. However this isn’t always the case, so check some online reviews.

The portable metal detector size and weight are of the essence, but so are the other features. If you’re serious about it, the sensitivity will be more important.
