Size of a Lathe

 

The size of a lathe will hinge on the manufacturer. The following examples will illustrate the difference in the dimensions of these products. 

Oneway 2436 Lathe 

The Morse taper is 2 and the inboard thread (metric) is M33 x 3 ½ RH. The outboard thread (metric) is M33 x 3 ½ RH. The bore hole is 5/8"and there are 2 fixed bearings. 

The quill is 1 ½ inches in diameter and the ram capacity is 4 inches. The bed and body specifications are as follows: the bedways cap is 1 ¾ inches and the table is 10 ¾ inches in diameter.

The size of a lathe varies. Model 2436 has a swing over bed of 24 inches and swing over banjo of 19 inches. The distance between centers is 36 inches. The model 2416 distance between centers is 16 inches. For model 2036 it is 36 inches and for 2016 it is 16 inches. 

Model 2436 is 60 inches long, 31 ¼ niches wide and weighs 850 lbs. Model 2416 is 40 inches long, 31 ¼ wide and weighs 650 lbs. Model 2036 is 60 inches long, 31 ¼ wide and weighs 800 lbs. Model 2016 is 40 inches long, 31 ¼ inches wide and weighs 600 lbs. 

Sherline 400 Specifications

The lathe has a shipping weight of 24 lb. (10.9 kg). It is 6" (150 mm) high, 7.5" (190 mm) wide and 24" (610 mm) long. The hand wheel graduation is .001" (.01 mm). 

The protractor graduation is 0° to 45° by 5° and the tailstock spindle taper is #0 Morse. The crosslide travel is 4.25" (110 mm) and the spindle nose taper is #1 Morse. The spindle nose thread of the Sherline 4000 is 3/4"-16 T.P.I. 

Sherline 4400(4410)

The swing over bed is 3.50" (90 mm). The swing over carriage is 1.75" (45 mm) and the hole through spindle is .405" (10 mm). The spindle nose taper is #1 Morse and the taper of tailstock spindle is #0 Morse. 

The hand wheel graduation is .001" (.01 mm) and the protractor graduation is 0° to 45° by 5°. The machine 32.25" (820 mm) long, 8.75" (220 mm) wide and 8" (200 mm) high. The weight is 30 lb. (13.6 kg).
