Size of a Games Room

The games room or gaming rooms are not just for games. They can also be used for other recreational activities or just relaxing. A games room can be for kids, teens, adults or for everyone. The following are some tips on how to design the ideal games room.

To determine the right size, ask yourself who will use the room. If it’s only for a couple of kids, a small to medium sized room will be sufficient. But if you want a games room with all the bells and whistles, you will have to set aside a large room.

Good space management is also necessary if you plan on installing a lot of games, seats and other extras. It’s a good idea to measure the room first. This will let you know how much space is available.

What is the Room Theme?

After the size of a games room has been determined, the theme is next. Do you want the room to be sports oriented? Or do you want the walls decorated with pictures of your favorite athletes and celebs?

If the room will be an entrainment center with TVs and entertainment systems, a more modern and sophisticated look may be better. Work this out first before you start painting and renovating the room.

List the items to be Installed in the Room

This is matter of personal preference, but here are some suggestions. Look for foldable tabletop games so you can store them away when they’re not in use.

If the size of a games room allows, include a cabinet so those board games will be in one place. A rack for the CDs will also be necessary. Unless the TV can be wall mounted, a TV stand will be needed. You can add a billiards table, DVD stands, gaming consoles, and a computer desk.

Organization is Key

Make a list not just of the items you want to include but also the activities that will be done there. If you are going to install a billiard table, make sure there is sufficient room for players to maneuver.

Get a sketch paper and draw the layout. Divide the room into the dart section, the pool table area, the TV viewing area, etc. Make sure there is sufficient room for all the games and the people. For instance, the board game will require a table plus at least two chairs.

Seating and Amenities

There should be enough seats in the room so everyone is comfortable. Some games rooms have a mini fridge and a kitchenette. This is something you can add if there is room for it. The lighting is very important. Some areas like board games and the computer may require more special lighting. Other extras you can add are bookshelves and freestanding cupboards.

As you can see, the size of a games room is just one aspect. The way you arrange everything can make the difference between a relaxing gaming room and one that is not.
