The following list of the most populated US cities is based on the definition of cities by the US Census Bureau. The figures given here are only for each municipal population in their described limits. It does not include suburban areas that have been not been incorporated. 
 
Number 1 to 10
 
The most populated US city is New York in New York. The number has been put at 8,391,881. At number 2 is Los Angeles, California with 3,831,868 residents. Chicago, Illinois is at number 3 with a population of 2,851,268. The fourth most heavily populated is Houston, Texas with 2,257,926 residents.
 
Occupying the number 5 slot in the most populated US cities is Phoenix, Arizona with 1,593,659. At number six is Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with 1,547,297 residents. At number 7 is San Antonio, Texas with a population of 1,373,668. 
 
The city of San Diego in California is at number eight. The population is 1,306,300. Dallas is the ninth most heavily populated with 1,299,542. Occupying the number ten slot is San Jose, California. The population is 964,695. 
 
Number 11 to 20
At the number 11 slot is Detroit, Michigan with a population of 910,921. The number 12 position is held by San Francisco, California. Its population has been estimated at 815,350. Jacksonville, Florida is the thirteenth most populated city with 813,518 residents. Indianapolis, Indiana is at number 14. The population has been estimated at 807,584. 
 
Number 15 is Austin, Texas with a population of 786,386. The 16th most populated is Columbus Ohio with 769,332 inhabitants. Fort Worth, Texas is at number 17 with 727,577. At number 18 is Charlotte, North Carolina with 709,441. 
 
The number 19th spot belongs to Memphis, Tennessee. It has a population of 676,640. At the 20th spot is Boston, Massachusetts. The population is 645,169. 
 
Number 21 to 30
 
At the 21st spot is Baltimore, Maryland with a population of 637,418. El Paso, Texas is at the 22nd spot with a population of 620,456. Seattle, Washington is at the 23rd spot with 616,627. 
 
The 24th most populated is Denver, Colorado with 610,345. Nashville, Tennessee is at number 25 with 605,473. Milwaukee, Wisconsin is at 26th with 605,013. The 27th most populated is Washington, D.C with 599,657. 
 
At number 28 is Las Vegas, Nevada with 567,641. At number 29 is Louisville, Kentucky with 566,503. At the number 30 spot in the list of most populated US cities is Portland, Oregon. Its population has been estimated at 566,143.
