How Big are Snow Skis?

Do you need to figure out the sizes of snow skis? Note that there is no such thing as a pair of snow skis that works for everyone. There are a few things that one needs to do in order to find the right size of skis to use. Some of the important things to think about include a skier’s experience and where has one skied before.

Skill Level

One of the big considerations when figuring out the sizes of snow skis to use is the skill level of the skier. There is just no such thing as a pair of skis that are meant to be used for any skill level. This makes matching the skis to one’s skill level very important. Using a ski that isn’t suited for your skier level just won’t help you get ahead in this sport. It will be more of an impediment rather than a benefit to one’s current abilities.

Skis that are designed for advanced skiers are usually a lot stiffer and will require the application of more techniques. The advantage of these types of skis is that they offer faster response and should be used at faster speeds. Skis for intermediate skiers and beginners are generally softer by comparison. They are easier to turn at slow speed thus requiring less technique.

Sizes of Snow Skis by Height

Another important consideration to make is to choose a pair of snow skis according to one’s height. Of course, you will still have to match your current skills to the size of the snow skis you’re going to get. For instance, if the skier is around four feet in height and is a beginner then that skier should get snow skis that are 105 cm to 110 cm in length. An intermediate skier of the same height should get snow skis that are 115 to 125 centimeters in length.

A beginner that stands five feet tall should get skis that are 135 to 140 centimeters long while an intermediate skier of the same height should get a pair of skis that are 150 to 160 centimeters long. Beginners that are around five and a half feet in height should get skis that are 150 to 155 centimeters long but an intermediate skier of the same height should get a pair that is 165 to 175 centimeters long.

Beginners who are around six feet tall should get skis that are 160 to 170 centimeters long and intermediate skiers of the same height should get skis that are 175 to 195 centimeters long. Beginners who are 6’6″ and above should get skis that are about 180 centimeters long or even longer while intermediate skiers of the same height should get skis that are 200+ centimeters in length.

Don’t just pick any snow ski you find in the store. There are several things to consider when finding the right sizes of snow skis for you.
