What is the Size of a Dalmatian?

Dalmatians originate from Yugoslavia and were initially bread Dalmatianas herding dogs, watch dogs, ratters, trail hounds, bird dogs, performers, and retrievers. The origin of the Dalmatian breed even dates back to antiquity. Since this dog breed is only classed within the group of non-sporting dogs, some people tend to ask about Dalmatian sizes.

Facts on Dalmatian Sizes

Comparing Dalmatian sizes with those of other dog breeds, it is usually classified as a medium sized dog. A full grown adult Dalmatian can weigh somewhere between 50 to 65 pounds. Its height usually spans from 18 inches to 28 inches. Because of these sizes and other characteristics, this dog breed has been grouped along with other non-sporting breeds.

Growth and Development

You will appreciate the various Dalmatian sizes as you observe their growth starting when they were small puppies until they grow up to be adults. When Dalmatian puppies are born, like all other dogs of whatever size or breed, they are tiny and helpless. It is observed that there are puppies of this breed that are born deaf.

For the first two months Dalmatian puppies will behave like all other puppies that are starting to grow. You’ll observe improvement regarding their motor skills, but they will begin with sleeping a lot more than moving around on their own. At this stage these puppies will weigh less than five kilograms until they reach eight weeks. Dalmatian sizes won’t have a significant increase at this stage.

At eight weeks you’ll find that the Dalmatian puppy has started to grow rather faster than before. By this time a puppy of its size should weigh around 6.5 kilograms. You’ll notice that the puppy will interact with the rest of the litter and eventually establish their order of dominance at their current size.

A Dalmatian will weigh from 10 to 12 kilograms within the 11th to the 12th week. You should expect it to be around 43 to 45 cm long at this time in its life. At this point, a Dalmatian will grow rather slowly as compared to its earlier growth. From this point a Dalmatian will grow from 45 cm to 52.5 cm from the 14th week to the 21st week. It would have weighed up to 23 kilograms after 21 weeks.

Dalmatian sizes will span a growth from 22 kilograms to 32 kilograms until the dog reaches 13 months. The increase in weight will be gradual as well as its increase in height. The dog will grow from 53 cm to something around 61 cm until its 13th month. Puppy and dog sizes will actually be slightly different depending on growth conditions and other factors.
