Toilet Dimensions

Although there are many designs and innovations being implemented, the toilet dimensions have been standardized. There are slight variations, but the following specifications are widely used because they provide the body room to make the necessary movements.

The Size of the Seat

The typical seat is 40 cm wide, which is about .40 meters. This measurement includes the thickness of the rim (5 cm). In effect the bowl is .30 meters wide. While this size is common, some toilet sizes may add a few more millimeters to it.

Manufacturers do this because they want to implement certain designs. Some toilets are narrower, especially those utilized in cubicles and bathrooms.

The length varies from 45 to 50 centimeters. The toilet dimensions include the 5 centimeter thickness. This gives the toilet bowl a length of 0.35 to 0.40 meters.

This measurement extends to the urinal and anal points of the human excrement. This measurement will cover both bladder and bowel movement. This is true even if both
happen at the same time.

Unlike the other specifications, a shorter length is barely used. The reason is that it will make bowel movement difficult. Longer lengths are not used either, because it will waste space. It will also affect the proportions and design.

The Seat Height

The ideal height is 40 to 45 cm. If the toilet dimensions are set higher, the legs will get numb. This can happen because the back legs will be set on the rim. If the seat is too low, constipation may be felt due to the navel being pressed.

By using the 40 to 45 cm height, the person will be able to sit comfortably. This also helps males urinate standing up.

The Water Tank Dimensions

The seat size also determines the water tank specifications at the back. The water tank is usually 0.25 meter wide. The typical length is 0.70 to 0.75 meters. This size is ideal for use in cubicles and restrooms that is 1.2 or 1.5 meters wide.

Note that some toilet designs no longer have any need for the water tank. Many new units have implemented the water supply at the plumbing mechanisms. The allowance must not be less than 45 to 50 centimeters.

Other Information

In some units, the toilet measurement is given as 430 mm long and 360 mm wide. Remember that while there are style variations, the basic measurements are still followed. Some of the materials used for toilets are porcelain, plastic and molded wood. Other types of material used are steel and ivory.

There are two seat types used. One is the standard bowl, and the other is a bit longer. The most popular color is white, but others come in different colors. In fact, most of the older toilets are black. In some countries, black toilets are still used.
