Size of a Smoking Room
A smoking room is an area in a house, hotel or other establishment where people can
smoke. Smoking rooms have been in existence for a long time. Today, the smoking rooms in hotels and other commercial establishments come in various shapes and styles. Almost all, however, are designated for people 18 years and older.
Size of the Smoking Room
The dimensions vary. Usually the smoking rooms in hotels are much bigger than the ones in houses. However, a household can designate any room in the house as a smoking area. There is no standard size used, although 8 x 8, 9 x 9 and larger are becoming common in homes. Those in hotels are usually large than this.
Designating a Smoking Room in the House
It’s a good idea to use linoleum for the flooring. Unlike carpet, linoleum won’t retain the smell of the smoke. If the floor has a carpet, take it off and replace it with linoleum. A 9 x 9 smoking room will need half a dozen 3 x 3 linoleum squares. For larger smoking rooms, you will need more linoleum.
Adding Plants and Air Purifiers
If the size of the smoking room is 9 x 9 ft, a single air purifier will be sufficient. If the room is big, you may need to put air purifiers in a couple of corners. Replace or add more air purifiers as needed.
You can also put ficus trees and plants in the room. These make the room attractive. They can also help filter cigarette and tobacco smoke. Make sure the room has enough space for these plants; don’t crowd the room.
Smokeless Ashtrays
Smokeless ashtrays will keep smoke from escaping the room. These smokeless ashtrays look like cups with lids. Having this around will keep smoke and pollution to a minimum. Add as many of these smokeless ashtrays as necessary.
Maintenance and Upkeep
Cleaning the room regularly will prevent the odors from accumulating. No matter what the size of the smoking room is, regular cleaning is necessary so the smell doesn’t stale. Keeping the windows open will also help in dispersing the smoke.
Hotels and Smoking Rooms
Many hotels in America no longer have smoking rooms, but this is not always the case in other countries. Even in the US, the policy restrictions on public smoking vary. If you are looking for a place, you will have to do some research online.
There are many websites that help you find motels and hotels where smoking rooms are present. In many cases the room dimensions will be specified too. Alternatively, you can call or email the hotel. They can inform you of their policies. Pay attention to the rules so you don’t get into trouble.
In some hotels, you will have to specify that the room you book has a smoking room. When you find the room, make the reservation.
The size of the smoking room in homes is determined by the number of people going to use it. A spacious room will allow people to smoke comfortably so keep this in mind.
