For instance, a half keg/half barrel can actually hold as much as 99 servings of 20-fluid ounce beer, 124 servings of 16-fluid ounce beer and 165 servings of 12-fluid ounce beer. An import keg, which is considered the standard European barrel, can hold as much as 84 servings of 20-fluid ounce beer, 105 servings of 16-fluid ounce beer and 140 servings of 12-fluid ounce beer.

The pony keg or quarter barrel is a smaller type of keg. This size can hold as much as 49 servings of 20-fluid ounce beer, 62 servings of 16-fluid ounce beer and 82 servings of 12-fluid ounce beer. In Europe, a half barrel is much smaller. Compared to the half barrel in the U.S., this size can only hold as much as 42 servings of 20-fluid ounce beer, 50 servings of 16-fluid ounce beer and 70 servings of 12-fluid ounce beer. Slightly smaller than this size is the torpedo keg or sixth barrel. This size can hold about 33 servings of 20-fluid ounce beer, 42 servings of 16-fluid ounce beer and 56 servings of 12-fluid ounce beer.

The last two common types of keg are the corny keg and the mini keg. Also referred to as home brew or soda syrup, a corny keg can hold as much as 32 servings of 20-fluid ounce beer, 40 servings of 16-fluid ounce beer and 53 servings of 12-fluid ounce beer. On the other hand, the bubba or mini keg can only hold about 8 servings of 20-fluid ounce beer, 10 servings of 16-fluid ounce beer and 14 servings of 12-fluid ounce beer.

In the United States, the half barrel keg is the most accepted size. When full, it weighs about 72.8 kilograms or 160.5 pounds. When empty, it only weighs 13.5 kilograms or 29.7 pounds. Considering these measurements, the approximate weight of the beer that it can hold is 59.3 kilograms or 130.8 pounds. It has a standard height of 23.3 inches.
