How Big is a Chimney Starter?
Chimney starter sizes are as diverse as the product designs. Some are 8 x 9 x 8 inches, 10 x 9 x 7 inches and 11 x 7 x 8 inches. The average length is 12 to 18 inches. The average diameter is eight inches. Even though their dimensions vary, they all do the same thing.
Purpose
This apparatus is used for setting charcoals on fire. The starter is frequently utilized when there is no lighter fluid. Lighter fluid is usually the first choice for lighting coals.
Characteristics
The average starter has a cylinder shape. It is composed of metal. Near the bottom is a grate and on the side a handle. While the chimney starter sizes differ, most can hold 2.7 kg / 6 lbs of charcoal.
Utilization
To use the starter, the charcoals have to be inserted in the unit. Some flammable material must be set on the exterior below the gate. You then ignite the material. The air begins to move below the charcoal. As fire and oxygen interact, the flammable objects ignite the charcoal within the device.
The starter must not be ignited on concrete grounds. The heat is capable of wrecking concrete. In some cases this can lead to an explosion. The ideal places to use the device are on a fire-safe bricks that are on patios, oil drip pans and a charcoal grate.
The Handle
In most starters today, there is an insulated handle. This feature ensures you will not get burned while using the device. The high end starters have stainless steel handles. If not stainless steel, it will use materials that do not rust.
You should also make sure the handle is attached well. Poorly designed starters have handles that come off after a while. Even so, most users would recommend wearing gloves to prevent burns.
Once the charcoal is lit, you can gather it via the handle. Tongs or similar tools can be used to take out the coals. Regardless of the chimney starter sizes, it will remain hot after its use. You should
handle it carefully.
Other Information
These starters are usually very easy to use. However, you should still be careful about handling anything that is flammable. As long as the charcoals are lighted properly you can cook burgers, hotdogs, steaks or whatever it is you have in mind.
The amount you can cook depends on the capacity. This will vary per starter, so some research is necessary.
