Egg Sizes in the United States

For the purpose of sales, the eggs of chicken are graded by size. In the United States, a peewee is an egg with size greater than 35 grams or 1.25 ounces. Meanwhile, a small-sized egg weighs greater than 43 grams or 1.5 ounces. A medium-sized egg has a weight of 50 grams or 1.75 ounces. A large-sized egg has a weight of 57 grams or 2 ounces. In addition, there is also an extra large egg, which weighs more than 64 grams or 2.25 ounces. Finally, the biggest size is referred to as jumbo, each of which measures 71 grams or 2.5 ounces.

In this country, the sizes of eggs are classified into pullet, medium, standard, large and jumbo. A pullet weighs around 35 grams, a medium-sized egg about 44 grams and a standard-sized egg 53 grams. Meanwhile, a large egg weighs about 62 grams while a jumbo-sized egg around 68 grams.

In Australia, the Australian Egg Corporation is responsible for defining the sizes of egg. Based on its standards, a large egg weighs 52 grams. An extra large egg measures 60 grams, while a jumbo egg weighs 68 grams.

Traditional Sizes of Eggs

A size-7 egg weighs less than 45 grams, a size-6 egg range from 45 grams to 50 grams and a size-5 egg from 50 grams to 55 grams. Meanwhile, a size-4 egg weighs 55 grams to 60 grams, a size-3 egg from 60 grams to 65 grams and a size-2 egg from 65 grams to 70 grams. Additionally, there is a size-1 egg that measures 70 grams to 75 grams and a size-0 egg that is greater than 75 grams.
