Dimensions of a Flag Pole

The flagpole dimensions specifically the height, plays a role in determining the size of the flag you will install. The following are the standard sizes used in the United States and many other countries.

Standard Flag and Flagpole Size Ratios

For a flagpole 15 ft high, the minimum flag size has to be 2.5 ft x 4 ft and the maximum is 4 ft x 6 ft. For a 20 ft flagpole, the minimum flag size is 3 ft x 5 ft and the maximum is 5 ft x 8 ft. The 3 ft x 5 ft and 5 ft x 8 ft flags are also suitable for 25 ft flagpole dimensions.

The 30 ft flagpole should be fitted with a flag at least 4 ft x 6 ft or a maximum of 6 ft x 10 ft. For a 40 ft flagpole, the minimum flag size is 5 ft x 8 ft and the maximum is 8 ft x 12 ft.

If the flagpole is 50 ft, the minimum flag size is 6 ft x 10 ft, while the maximum is 10 ft x 15 ft. For a 60 ft high flagpole, the flag has to be at least 8 ft x 12 ft and the maximum size is 12 ft x 18 ft.

For 70 ft flagpole dimensions, the minimum flag size is 10 ft x 15 ft and the maximum flag dimensions are 15 ft x 25 ft. For an 80 ft flagpole, the minimum size is 10 ft x 19 ft and the maximum is 20 ft x 30 ft.

Location Issues

The location plays a part in determining what flagpole to use. For coastal areas, desert plains and mountains, wind resistant flagpoles are necessary. The wind force increases the higher it is over sea level.

Flagpole Features

Modern flagpoles are equipped with two kinds of halyard or rope to get the flag flying. The external halyard is looped on a pulley system (known as a truck). The flag is flown by hooking the flag to the halyard pulling the rope.

When the flag is up, you secure the halyard on a cleat. The internal halyard is set inside the flagpole. It comes with a crank for raising and lowering the flag.

Assessing the flagpole dimensions is essential not just for making the flag look good, but to make sure it is sturdy. By keeping these simple facts in mind, you won’t have problems raising up the flag.
