Anyone who is in the shipping business or needs its services must know the dimensions of the various containers. The following list outlines their specifications.

Container Cubic Capacity: 45’ Dry and Reefer (High Cube)

The 45’ high cube dry containers have a capacity of 3.031 cu. ft. or 86.0 cbm. The payload is 27,910 kg / 61,529 lbs. The tare weight is 4,590 kg (equal to 10,118 lbs). The interior is 13.556 m long, 2.352 m wide and 2.695 m high (44’5 11/16" x 7’8 9/16" x 8’10 1/16").

The 45’ high cube reefer container has a cubic capacity of 2,663 cu. ft. or 75.4 cbm. The maximum payload is 27,300 kg / 60,184 lbs. The tare weight is 5,200 kg / 11,463 lbs. The dimensions are 13.102 m x 2.286 m x 2.509 m / 42’11 3/4" x 7 6" x 8’2 3/4" (L x W x H).

Container Cubic Capacity: 40’ Standard Dry and High Cube

The 40’ high cube dry container has a cubic capacity of 2,714 cu. ft. / 76.0 cbm. The payload limit is 28,570 kg / 62,984 lbs. The tare weight is 3,930 kg / 8,663 lbs. The interior dimensions are 12.030 m x 2.350 m x 2.690 m / 39’5 9/16" x 7’8 1/2" x 8’9 7/8" (L x W x H).

The 40’ standard dry containers have a capacity of 2,393 cu .ft. / 67.0 cbm. The maximum load is 28,800 kg / 63,491 lbs. The tare weight is 3,700 kg / 8,156 lbs. The size of the container is 12.035 m x 2.350 m x 2.393 m / 39’5 13/16" x 7’8 1/2" x 7’10 3/16" (L x W x H).

Container Cubic Capacity: 40’ Open Top and Reefer High Cube

The 40’ open top’s capacity is 2,260 cu. ft. / 64.0 cbm. The payload is 28,280 kg / 62,344 lbs and the tare weight is 4,300 kg / 9,480 lbs. The dimensions are 12.043 m x 2.338 m x 2.272 m / 39’6" x 7’8" x 7’5 1/4" (L x W x H).

The 40’ reefer high cube’s capacity is 2,366 cu. ft. / 67.0 cbm. The payload is 28,350 kg / 62,499 lbs and the tare weight is 4,150 kg / 9,148 lbs. The dimensions are: 11.577 m x 2.294 m x 2.509 m / 37’11 ¾ x 7’6 1/4" x 8’2 3/4" (L x W x H).

Container Cubic Capacity: 40’ Standard Reefer

The 40’ standard reefer capacity is 2,073 cu. ft. / 58.7 cbm. The payload is 7,910 kg / 61,529 lbs. The tare weight is 3,950 kg / 8,708 lbs. It measures 11.577 m x 2.294 m x 2.210 m (37’11 ¾ x 7’6 1/4" x 7’3").

TEU Equivalents

The TEU stands for twenty foot equivalent unit. It refers to the total capacity of container vessels and terminals. 1 TEU is equal to a 20 ft container and 2 TEU is equivalent to a 40 ft container.

The container cubic capacity will change when the dimensions are altered. Because these are made by different companies, the volume is never totally the same.
