Dimensions Guide

Cardboard box sizes are always measured on the inside. The sizes are almost always expressed by length x width x depth. The term cardboard box is hardly used by manufacturers because it is generic. Instead, the box is referred to by its material (i.e., paperboard or corrugated fiberboard).

Cardboard Box Dimensions: Telescopic Boxes

Telescopic boxes are used to ship oddly shaped objects. Tall telescopic boxes come in a variety of sizes. Some of them are 4 x 4 x 48 – 90", 6 x 6 x 48 – 90", 6 x 6 x 72 – 132", 8 x 8 x 48 – 90" and 12 x 12 x 48 – 90".

Others measure 14 x 14 x 40 – 74", 16 x 16 x 40 – 74" or 20 x 20 x 40 – 74". Flat telescopic boxes are 24 x 8 x 57 – 108", 30 x 6 x 24 – 44", 37 x 4 x 30 – 60" and 48 x 6 x 38 – 72".

Cardboard Box Dimensions: Cube Boxes

Sizes include 3 x 3 x 3”, 5 x 5 x 5", 7 x 7 x 7", 10 x 10 x 10" or 12 x 12 x 12". There are also cube boxes that measure 14 x 14 x 14", 16 x 16 x 16", 18 x 18 x 18", 20 x 20 x 20", 22 x 22 x 22" and 24 x 24 x 24".

Some manufacturers also make boxes in the following sizes: 25 x 25 x 25", 26 x 26 x 26", 27 x 27 x 27", 28 x 28 x 28", 30 x 30 x 30", 32 x 32 x 32", 34 x 34 x 34" and 36 x 36 x 36".

Cardboard Box Dimensions: Long Boxes

Some of the more widely used sizes are 6 x 3 x 3", 10 x 4 x 4", 10 x 6 x 6", 12 x 6 x 4", 13 x 7 x 7", 14 x 4 x 4" and 14 x 6 x 4". Other box dimensions available are 16 x 6 x 6", 16 x 8 x 4", 18 x 8 x 6", 20 x 5 x 5", 24 x 4 x 4", 24 x 6 x 6" and 24 x 8 x 8".

Larger boxes measure 32 x 6 x 6", 32 x 12 x 12", 36 x 8 x 8", 36 x 12 x 12", 48 x 4 x 4", 48 x 10 x 10 and 48 x 16 x 16".

Cardboard Box Dimensions: Tall Boxes

Sizes include 4 x 4 x 12", 4 x 4 x 20", 4 x 4 x 28", 4 x 4 x 36", 4 x 4 x 48", 4 x 4 x 74" and 5 x 5 x 36". Other box sizes are 5 x 5 x 60", 6 x 6 x 12", 6 x 6 x 24", 6 x 6 x 36", 6 x 6 x 40", 6 x 6 x 60" and 6 x 6 x 72". Others are 8 x 8 x 24", 14 x 14 x 30" and 20 x 20 x 48".
